Dermaplane
what is a dermaplane?
Dermaplane, also known as “blading,” is one very effective type of manual exfoliation. Dermaplane removes the outer-most layers of dead cells, leaving the skin immediately smooth, supple, and vibrant. Dermaplane (blading) is a non-traumatic method of skin rejuvenation.
how is this treatment performed?
It is safely performed by using a sterile surgical scalpel blade. The blade is held at a 45-degree angle and stroked along the skin backward, toward the skin specialist, in a shaving motion. The skin specialist holds the area of skin taut while performing the procedure.
Is this treatment safe?
This treatment, when performed by a professionally trained skin specialist, is extremely safe. There is actually less risk to the skin than with microdermabrasion as foreign particles are not being introduced or manually dragged across the skin. As long as the skin specialist has correct training and certification, the treatment should be very easy, quick, and comfortable.
Do the hairs on the face grow back thicker?
No. It is physiologically impossible for your vellus hairs (fine facial hairs) to grow back thicker. True, once the hair is cut it has a blunt edge. But this blunt edge does not mean that the hair structure itself has been physiologically altered. Vellus hair, when cut or removed, will grow back the same. The structure and root of the hair does not become damaged, therefore it is impossible to alter.
can dermaplane cause the skin to bleed?
Yes, of course it can. This procedure is performed with a sharp instrument. But the chance of cutting into the skin is unlikely if the skin specialist prepares the skin correctly for the procedure. Furthermore, dermaplane should only be performed by a skin specialist who has had the proper training and practice. Not all beauty therapists know how to perform this treatment. That is why training is mandatory!
what areas of the skin can be treated?
Dermaplane is performed on the face only. We do not blade the nose, eyelids, neck or chest.
How often is this procedure performed?
Dermaplane can be performed every three-four weeks. Dermaplaninng the skin actually removes about two-three weeks worth of dead skin cells. We want the skin to complete its normal skin cycle of approximately 30 days. We would not recommend treating the skin more often then that.
What skin types/conditions can be treated?
All skin types can benefit from dermaplane, however we do not recommend this treatment for those suffering from acne and overly oily skin. Unfortunately, too much stimulation on these skin types can actually generate more acne. Ideally, acne and oily skins should be treated with peels and SkinStamp.
